From the President & CEO
AAHRPP President and CEO Elyse I. Summers, JD, looks forward to a fascinating, thought-provoking Annual Conference and, even more, to AAHRPP’s continued evolution as a resource for accredited and not-yet-accredited organizations.
In Brief...
Evaluation Instrument Updates
As of April 5, 2024, our Evaluation Instrument for Accreditation has been updated to incorporate:
- All VA revisions to the Common Rule
- Industry standards for contracts and funding agreements with research sponsors
In both cases, the updates are designed to increase transparency and make it easier for AAHRPP-accredited organizations to conform to best practices.
New Initiative Focuses on REACHing Inclusion
Introducing the Research Ethics Action Collaborative for HRPPs (REACH), an initiative designed to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and access (DEIA) in research. Led by the Multi-Regional Clinical Trials center (MRCT), Mass General Brigham, AAHRPP, and PRIM&R, REACH seeks to articulate the case for change and develop a roadmap to prioritize and operationalize DEIA efforts in IRBs and HRPPs.

"HRPP Innovations" Webinar
Empowering Participant Voices - Tuesday, July 9, 2024 1:00pm - 2:30pm ET
This session will focus on "Empowering the Participant Voice (EPV)", an NIH/NCATS-funded 4-year initiative that makes it easier for clinical research institutions to routinely collect (and act on) participant feedback about their experiences.
The project leveraged the published, validated, participant-centered Research Participant Perception Survey and the REDCap platform to develop free software, an analytic dashboard, and tools to streamline collecting and acting on participant experience data.
The feedback data, including ratings of experiences around informed consent, listening, respect, cultural sensitivity, communication, etc., are used locally and nationally to improve research.
This webinar will be presented by EPV collaborators Rhonda Kost, Director, Clinical Research Support Office;Co-Director Community Engaged Research Core, The Rockefeller University Center for Clinical and Translational Science; Sana Khoury-Shakour, Director, Office of Research Compliance Review, University of Michigan; and Joseph Andrews, Associate Vice President & Assistant Dean, Regulatory Affairs and Research Integrity, Wake Forest School of Medicine; and will be moderated by Nichelle Cobb, Senior Advisor for Strategic Initiatives, AAHRPP.
